Reaction Wheels Rolling

Reaction wheel functionality is slowly coming along in the attitude dynamics simulator. There’s some interesting changes with wheels that I had forgotten about since torque rods were the focus of pretty much all of my spacecraft simulation work. I’ve done some wheel based control simulations for high altitude balloons, but the scope of that was quite different, partially because that wasn’t for a 3-axis controller.  I do need to find some reasonable wheel moments of inertia though. The goal is to plot wheel speed, since that is analogous to magnetic dipole moment for the torque rods. Given more information about a set of reaction wheels, the speeds could also be related to current draw as well, but that would probably have to wait for a future upgrade.
